Hot drinks are not good for your esophagus!

Picked this tidbit up in my email today -

Why Iced Tea May Be Better Than Hot

While it’s directed to hot tea vs ice tea, the article says that “Drinking piping hot beverages may increase the risk of esophageal cancer”, touting a study that “found that subjects who regularly drank extremely hot tea had a higher risk of the cancer — much higher than people who drank their tea just warm or lukewarm”

The Word of Wisdom has always said “hot drinks are not for the body or belly.” This has been expounded to mean coffee and tea, and by extrapolation (and from LDS leaders), caffeine, thus also excluding Cokes and other caffinated drinks. While this is all still valid, it seems evident that drinking any beverage that is too hot (I imagine even hot chocolate, herbal tea, or even water) can be damaging, not just from scalds (ouch!) but in the long run to our esophagas, too.
